Bobby Thomas Edged Out in Close Split Decision

It was not to be on the night for Wellingborough Amateur Boxing Club’s Bobby Thomas, who was unlucky not to get the decision after a very close and competitive bout.

Bobby gave a strong account of himself from the opening bell, taking on a very awkward opponent and showing real heart, discipline and skill throughout. The bout proved to be a difficult contest to score, with both boxers having moments of success and both needing to adjust as the rounds went on.

Despite the result not going his way, Bobby showed exactly what he is about. He stayed composed, worked hard, listened to his corner and continued to push forward in a bout that could have gone either way. At the final bell, the decision went against him by a narrow 3–2 split decision.

While losing on a split decision is always frustrating, performances like this are important in a boxer’s development. Every bout gives experience, and Bobby once again showed the attitude and character we expect from our boxers at WABC.

There is plenty to take away from the contest, plenty to build on, and we know Bobby will come back stronger. Results do not always tell the full story, and tonight was one of those nights where the performance deserved a lot of credit.

Everyone at Wellingborough ABC is proud of the effort Bobby put in. He represented himself, his coaches and the club well, and we go again.

Well done, Bobby Thomas.
