It was not the decision we wanted this time, but it was a performance to be proud of from Larae at the East Midlands Schools Semi-Finals.
Larae stepped in against an opponent with twice the experience and gave a brilliant account of himself. He showed real heart throughout the bout, biting down on his gumshield and trading when he needed to, while also boxing smart and staying composed under pressure.
Although we felt Larae did more than enough to get the result, the decision did not go his way, losing out on a 4–1 decision.
What stood out most was the respect shown between both boxers. Friends before and friends after, which is exactly what amateur boxing is all about.
These are the experiences that help young boxers grow. Larae can hold his head high, take the positives, learn from it, and come back stronger.
As always, we go again.
