On the 25th of January, Coach Charlie and Trainee Coach Jon Jon took two of our talented boxers, Larae and Darius, to Coventry for an exciting evening of boxing. Both boxers stepped into the ring to test their skills, grow their confidence, and continue their development as fighters.
Larae participated in a skills bout, a no-winner, no-loser contest designed to build experience and self-assurance without the use of power shots. Larae performed exceptionally well, showcasing impressive ringcraft and excellent use of range. This was a valuable step forward in his journey, and he left the ring with plenty of positives to build on.
Darius, on the other hand, faced a tough opponent in a competitive bout. From the first bell, Darius demonstrated the improvements he has made since his last fight, particularly in his fitness and overall performance. However, during the third and final round, a brief lapse in concentration led to him being dropped. Despite this setback, Darius recovered quickly and, in Coach Charlie’s opinion, did enough to win the final round. Unfortunately, the decision didn’t go in Darius’ favor this time.
Both Larae and Darius showed resilience, heart, and determination – key qualities of Wellingborough ABC boxers. The experience gained in Coventry will undoubtedly strengthen their future performances.
Well done to Larae and Darius for their efforts and to Coaches Charlie and Jon Jon for their dedication and guidance. The journey continues, and we couldn’t be prouder of our boxers!
